Work at the Farm

Today us missionaries started planting in the greenhouse; celery and romaine lettuce.  Today in the greenhouse it was 100 degrees.  We have a two coolers on circulating the air to help control the heat.

A few of us began burning weed cloth to put in each grow box for weed management.  Burning means we measure the spacing of each product and burn a 3-4 inch round hole in the cloth.  Since each cloth is 85 feet long and 5.5 feet wide a lot of time will be spent to get all the grow boxes setup with weed cloth.  Each of our boxes contain one or two products.

Last season a considerable amount of time was spent on weeding the grow boxes and hopefully this year we can eliminate  the weeds in the boxes and use our volunteers to help manage the field.

Surrounding the entire perimeter of the farm are concord grape vines.  When the volunteers arrive in April, the first thing that will need to be done is to prune these vines.  But more on that later.
